THERAPY FOR TRAUMA and ANXIETY
It’s time to take back control.
Talking about trauma sometimes isn’t enough. Here’s why treatment such as brainspotting can help.
In research in the last few decades, we have found out that trauma cannot get better by simply talking about it. What research shows is needed is a mind/body brain-based approach.
Trauma is stored in what is called our cerebellum AKA “animal brain”. By talking, it only accesses our neocortex (front of the brain). Brianspotting is a simple yet powerful method to access what is stuck in our deep brain and release it. The outcome is being able to be present and not being as affected by “triggers”.
Not only can we release the negative that is stuck in our brain and bodies, but we can access parts of our mind that make us feel good and unleashes desire.
Life can feel different than the way it does today.
Therapy can help you break the hold anxiety has on you- physically and mentally.
Anxiety is not only an emotional but a physical discomfort for many people. When we are anxious, our nervous system begins to activate. This can be fight, flight, fawn, or freeze. What can happen is that our nervous system gets “stuck”. That can be feeling your heart racing even after the stimulus is gone. We can also feel the opposite which is lethargy and depressed. Brainspotting helps with healing the nervous system and gets our minds and bodies from dysregulation to regulation. Narrative therapy can also be used to help anxiety or get through a traumatic event by dignifying you through your values as well as using externalization to objectively look at your problems.
How It Works
Go through a detailed intake process to measure the effect of issues and come up with goals.
The client often wears headphones playing “bilateral” music/nature sounds that help with the reprocessing mentioned above.
I help you find a spot in your field of vision (brainspot) that helps you access where the trauma/stuck energy is lodged in the brain.
Together, we decide the “target” of the BSP. Then the clearing processing begins.
Find an alternative story in your life that brings you dignity through facing your issues.
Learn to regulate your nervous system.
FAQS
What others have wondered about brainspotting
-
Everyone is different. Some people feel the difference in 1 session and for others, it may take a year. Usually, a client comes out of a session with some new insight.
-
Brianspotting was discovered 15 years ago by an EMDR Therapist David Grand. He had found EMDR to be very restrictive and found Brainspotting more effective. EMDR and Brainspotting both treat trauma.
